Creating Your Own Low Carb Vegetarian Meal

 

If you are on a low carb diet one of the hardest things to do is come up with a low carb vegetarian meal. There are many websites and articles dedicated to recipes for a low carb vegetarian meal, but not many that discuss how to make one on your own. Creating your own meal can be fun and provide you with a sense of accomplishment as well as a satisfying meal.

Steps To Designing Your Low Carb Vegetarian Meal

The first thing you need to do is pick a protein to work with. For this you have several options. The first of which is tofu. Tofu is very healthy, high in protein, low in carbohydrates and a solid base for a low carb vegetarian meal. However it does not have much of a flavor of its own, which can be a benefit and a hindrance. If you are planning on working with tofu it can be tough to make it the centerpiece.

Another option is to use eggs. Eggs make a great protein to anchor your meal around. Similar to tofu they do not have much flavor on their own, although they definitely have more character to them then tofu. They provide a good meat substitute and can be used and cooked in variety of ways. One idea is to make up a no bread quiche using eggs, broccoli and cheese. This is a perfect low carb vegetarian meal that should fit right into your diet.

 

Another option that is definitely more on the different side is to use nuts as your basic protein. Nuts of all kinds are very high in protein, and unfortunately fat as well. The good thing is that they are low in carbohydrates and so should fit into the low carb vegetarian meal very well, just do not go overboard with them. You may even want to try combining them with tofu to add more flavors to the meal.

Once you have your basic proteins down then you need to pick your vegetables. Here is where this meal really opens itself up to creativity. Peppers, broccoli, cauliflower are all acceptable choices. Peppers offer an extensive range of flavors and textures and work well with other vegetables as well.

Hopefully you have some ideas and are now ready to set out and plan your low carb vegetarian meal. Just remember to be as creative as you can and do no be afraid to try new things.
